ABSTRACT

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a clinical common neuro-psychiatric disease characterized by exercise tics or vocal tics.Appropriate interventions are needed when tics cause subjective discomfort, social or emotional problems for the patient,or affect daily learning and life.At present, the main therapies are pharmacologic treatment and behavioural and psychosocial therapies. However, for a small number of patients with treatment-refractory Tourette syndrome, deep brain stimulation (DBS),repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and other new agents that are being developed and tested can be used for treatment. This article briefly summarizes the characteristics and research progress of commonly used pharmacologic treatment and various behavioural and psychosocial therapies for children with TS,and also briefly introduces the measures for treatment-refractory Tourette syndrome, thus providing some help and guidance for the majority of pediatricians to treat children with TS.
